DEE ROWLAND Women voters to hear lecture from Rowland Ms. Dee Rowland, representing Peace Links, will address the Davis County League of Women Voters, Thursday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the South Davis Library. The public is invited to this slide presentation and discussion. Ms. Rowland was one of 19 American women invited to the Soviet Union last October as part of the US-USSR exchange program prog-ram with the Soviet Women's Committee, four of whom visited Salt Lake City in 1985. (The Soviet Women's Committee is supported by the Soviet Peace Fund financed by annual voluntary contributions from working people all around the Soviet Union.) On Oct. 22 Peace Links and the Soviet Women's Committee negotiated nego-tiated a cooperative agreement in Moscow as a first step involving women of both countries in a variety varie-ty of projects at the community level. As an outgrowth of their 1982-84 study on national security the national na-tional League of Women Voters developed a position statement in the area of international relations which reads: "Promote peace in an interdependent world by cooperating cooperat-ing with other nations, strengthening strengthen-ing international organizations, fostering long-term development, negotiating arms control measures and encouraging the successful resolution re-solution of conflicts through non-military non-military means." "Women's Day" magazine features fea-tures this exchange in the March and April issues. The "Today Show" is scheduled to carry footage foot-age two mornings during the week of the Summit. |
