Show Take Your Pick Dave-Keith Predict State Games By DAVE WIGHAM Clipper Sports Some people just never learn and my good friend Keith Duncan is one of them. Each year he tries to predict the outcome of the state football games and each year he gets put back in his place as the second best guesscr of this newspaper. news-paper. WITHOUT ANY further fanfare then here is Keith's predictions for the opening 1 round games this week, along with mine. First we'll give you some facts about each game and then the picks. Viewmont at Box Elder. The Bees won the region crown up north with a 4-1 record while the Vikes were fourth with a 2-3 league mark. You have to keep in mind though the Vikes were 2-0 against that region in the preseason. Keith says the Bees are tough to beat in Brigham City so he takes them while I pick the Vikes because of their passing attack will be too much for the Bees. BONNEVILLE at Woods Cross. The Lakers would have avoided this matchup but they lost to Box Elder last week. The Cats are at 4-1 and second in their league while the Lakers posted a 3-2 mark up north. Bonneville doesn't put a lot of points on the board but they don't give up many either. Keith figures this is the best Woods Cross team in memory so he picks them while I take the Cats simply because they have too much speed for the Lakers. Weber at Davis. These two have met once before with the Darts simply killing Weber with ease. Davis is rolling along with a 9-0 record on the year while the Warriors War-riors were at 3-2 in region play. USUALLY it's tough to beat the same team twice in a year but both Keith and I agree it's not that tough when you're Davis and the opponent oppo-nent is Weber. Highland at Clearfield. The Rams bring their wishbone to the northern tip of county to battle a strong defensive minded Falcon bunch, they only gave up 40 points in region play. Keith picks the Rams simply because their wishbone wish-bone will be too much for the Falcon Fal-con defense while I take the Highland High-land squad simply because they are much bigger and more physical. BRIGHTON at Olympus. Once again another matchup of two clubs that have played each other already. This could be the best game of the opening round since both schools have tradition. Keith likes Olympus because they were supposed to take state a year ago and blew it so they are anxious while I take the Titans due to their passing game. Granger at Hillcrest. Hillcrest won their region with a 5-1 record while Granger struggled to get into the tournament. Keith likes the Hillcrest team because they are in the same bracket as Davis and want another shot at the Darts but I'll take Granger in the upset of the day. Like Keith says the Huskies might be looking for the Darts and Mike Wilding and company will; sneak up on them. GRANITE at Alta. Alta tied with Hillcrest with a 5-1 mark and a co-title co-title in their region while Granite: came in fourth in their region at 2-3. : Alta has put some points on the-board, the-board, 133 in region play, while Granite has given up more than they've scored. Keith picks Alta because of their tradition and I'll take Alta because of their talent. BINGHAM-Taylorsvillc at Cottonwood. Cot-tonwood. The first two clubs have to playoff with each other early in the week for the right to battle the. strong Colts who won the Region-Three Region-Three title. Keith says Cotton-: wood due to the fact the Colts have: a tough team and I say even if Bing-; ham and Taylorsville combined; teams, the Colts would still win. :: |
