Show Parents Needed As the school year began it was my privilege to visit some of the local elementary and secondary schools in central Davis County. At our local elementary school a parent volunteer program was initiated initi-ated under the direction of the FI A. KINDERGARTEN through third grades had over 1 5 plus parents per room eager and willing to give of their time and services. At the 4th-6th 4th-6th grades the number dwindled to 3 or 4 parents per class. In our junior high and high school we have but a scant number who will even oiler of their services. In the-elementary the-elementary grades the membership in the IT A is in the 300-400 range and at secondary level it is between 90-150. At the parent-teacher conferences con-ferences we have the same type of results. Elementary teachers are busy the whole time with anxious parents pa-rents wanting to know how they can be involved with their children's chil-dren's education. But come time lor the Jr. High and high school conferences the teachers can read, write letters, visit with each other because of the lack of participation. participa-tion. (Of course there are some teachers who are happy and busy during the conferences with parents pa-rents who have taken the time to continue to support their student and teachers.) WHERE HAVE those parents gone who were so eager in the beginning be-ginning school years'? Where are those parents who can change and make the difference in their children's chil-dren's education? Where are the parents who can: Tutor in reading, writing, science, scien-ce, math, etc. Call the parents of students to notify them when their child is absent.
