Show Conference Sessions Sunday Are Well Attended in Pi. Grove With President Joseph Fielding Smith of the Council of Twelve Apostles presiding and Timpan-ogos Timpan-ogos Stake President Boyd L. Fug-al conducting, the first general sesion of the stake quarterly conference con-ference convened Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the stake house. Opening number O Ye Mountains Moun-tains High by the congregation was lead by Irwin Jensen with Rosalie Jacklin and Hal Haycock accompanists. Invocation was offered by Bishop Bis-hop G. Albert JJpencer. Special musical number was furnished by the Pleasant Grove High School A Cappella Choir, directed di-rected by Leslie Rees. They sang the "Fifty-First Psalm." Priests sustained to be advanced advan-ced to Elders were Craig Harvey Smith, Gary S. Hunter, Dean Christensen and Bryant Hicks. The first speaker was President Boyd L. Fugal, who urged all youth to honor their 'parents and remember the sacrifices that have been made for them. Clifford Bradley recently returned from the Norweigan LDS mission field roported on his labors there and bore testimony of the truthfulness truthful-ness of the 'gospel, as taught by the Latter-day .Saints. Reese Blackhurst, recently released re-leased from the California mission, mis-sion, told of the work of the church in that area, and also of the testimony he gained there. In his forceful talk, Stewart B. Eccles of the General Welfare Committee urged each family to follow a systematic plan, strive to keep out of debt and support the welfare plan. After the audience singing Count Your Many Blessings, the wife of the presiding authority spoke briefly, and sang1 "If Christ Should Come Tomorow." She was accompanied by Rosalie R. Jacklin. President Joseph Fielding Smith was the concluding- speaker speak-er and used as his theme "The Eternal Nature of the Family, the importance of temple marriage," mar-riage," and charged parents with the lesponsibility of teaching youth, the doctrines of the church. Closing musical number "No Man is an Island," was followed by benediction by Bill Gardiner. The afternoon general session began at 2:30, and with President Boyd L. Fugal conducting, opened with the congregation singing Redeemer of Israel. Invocation was offered by Lewis E. Olpin. Special music was by the Lin-don Lin-don Ward Choir, who sang "My Own America." They were directed direct-ed by Eva Millet and accompanied by Kathryn Rasband. The first speaker was President Presi-dent Elwood Allen, who stressed the fact that parents have obligations obliga-tions to their youth. President Ertmann Christensenv adhering- to the same theme, quoted quot-ed from the teachings of Brig-ham Young, in controlling youth. Next speaker the newly sustained sus-tained Bishop of the Third ward Jean A. Fugal expressed humility humil-ity in his new calling, but a prayerful heart to do his job well. Elder Eccles told of the growth of the welfare program and urged its support. A song by the audience was followed by Sister Smith, who asked that love be expressed for parents and children, and finished her part of the program by singing sing-ing "Temple by the Sea." President Joseph Fielding Smith in closing address stressed these thoughts: In judgment we will face the records of our lives as made here. Closing Number was "O Lord Most Merciful" by the Lindon Ward Choir. Benediction was by Bishop Kenneth H. Giltman of Lindon Second Ward. |
