Show Former director sues Special Olympics A trial date has been set in a lawsuit brough by former Executive Director Dave Durrance against the 1985 International Winter Special Olympic Games and the Utah Special Olympics. According to the clerk for the Third District Court in Coalville, Durrance's suit is scheduled to be heard at 9 a. m. Feb. 5 before Judge Leonard Russon. Durrance was hired to direct the preparations for the Winter Games in October of 1983 and fired the following January. He filed suit in, August claiming he was wrongfully discharged. The International Spe cial Olympics are scheduled to take place in Park City and Salt Lake City in March. Durrance is suing the group for $70,000 (the salary he would have received over two years) minus salary payments he had already received. Salt Lake attorney Brett Paulsen, a member of the group's board of directors, said Durrance was let go because "he simply wasn't doing the job." Jim Murphy was named as Durrance's replacement in Febru-b Febru-b ary. Durrance could not be reached for comment. |
