Show County moves to assume garbage collection duties The Summit County Commission and the city councils of each of the municipalities in the county have recently signed an interlocal cooperation cooper-ation agreement whereby Summit County will assume garbage collection collec-tion and disposal services within the County. Currently, garbage collection and disposal is performed by three entities in the County: Park City Municipal Corp., Kamas City and Summit County Special Service District 7 which serves Coalville. Henefer, Francis and Oakley, in addition to unincorporated areas of the county. According to the agreement, effect ive Jan. 1, 1985, the county will assume the garbage collection and disposal program. The program is to be funded by a general county mill levy. Under the agreement Summit County will assume operation of the Henefer landfill and construction and operation of a new landfill in the southern portion of the county. The new facility will replace the existing Park City landfill (scheduled for closure Jan. 1, 1985) and the Kamas dump. Both landfills will allow no-cost dumping for county residents and property owners. Summit County will handle curb-side curb-side collection for taxable improved properties on public maintained streets and roads. Service will be on a weekly basis, with a 160 gallon week limit. The county will also assume responsibility for weekly dumpster collection services not to exceed 8 yards per dumpster. This service must be requested where curbside service is not practical. Under the system, G & F Disposal, a private contractor will continue to provide most collection services. County and city homeowners will no longer receive bills for collection and commercial establishments will generally gen-erally see their bills eliminated or reduced. The real cost of providing garbage service will be reduced as bookkeeping costs will be minimized, minimiz-ed, according to a county source. The Summit County Commission will consider a resolution to dissolve Service District 7 at the next meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
