Nordic skiers warm up at Park Meadows pholo by Nan Chalat by Nan Chalat "I didn't even know this course was here," said one skier who turned out Saturday to race at the new nordic track on the Park Meadows Golf Course. Though the event was not a point qualifier for the Wasatch Citizens series, 30 skiers showed up to try out the new six kilometer track which is maintained by New Park Cyclery. The race was co-hosted by the Norwegian School of Nature Life. Ten men competed in the expert class including two racers for the Brigham Young University Nordic Ski Team. Aaron Billen from BYU won first place by completing two laps (12 kilometers) in 43 minutes and 2 seconds. But Park City resident Richard Groth edged into second place ahead of Billen's teammate, John Alsen. Groth's time was 44:17; Allsen's was 45:20. In the women's expert division Marianne Csizmazia of Sun Valley, Idaho won first place, completing the 12 kilomters in 51:21. Park City's Roxanne Toly was close behind, finishing second with a time of 51 : 52; After the experts a men's combined class competed in a one lap race. Pat Sheahan finished first in 20: 17; Jim Straley was second with a time of 24:19; and Bill Traeger was third in 25:27. Madonna Harris had the best time in the women's one-lap race. She finished in 25:03. Jesse Whitmore was second in 32:22. For complete results see the Scoreboard section . |
