Show The hazards of the season submitted by the P.C. Fire Department Here are some fire-wise tips for a safer, more enjoyable Christmas Christ-mas season. Blow out candles, and tum off inside lights and electrical decorations dec-orations before you leave the house. If you plan to leave a room for an extended period, it's wise to shut off lights and decorated items in that room. Choose only deep-seated candles or those with hurricane glass covers. On Christmas day, set out colorful department store shopping shop-ping bags, and dispose of gift wrappings in the bags as soon as each gift is unwrapped. Then discard the filled bags in a metal trash can before the evening is out. Boxes and other manufacture-provided manufacture-provided packaging should be disposed of promptly too. Save only those boxes which may be required to ship defective mechanical mech-anical or electrical gifts back for warranty repair. Another tip: if a holiday reveler drops a match or cigarette into the upholstery, you may want to put the cushion or the whole couch outside overnight. Upholstery Up-holstery soaks up heat quickly and releases it slowly. A brief exposure to hot ashes could result in a smoldering fire that doesn't erupt for hours, and is impossible to detect until it's too late. Christmas should be a festive season. Beat fire al its own game and don't let a tragic blaze ruin your holidays. |
