Show Nelson unveils collection of movie posters "Movie Reflections" is the theme of an exhibit of original French and Polish movie posters at the Salt lake Art Center. 20 South West Temple. The show will remain on exhibit through Jan. 15. Included with the exhibit will be several French and Polish posters from Robert Redford movies. These posters have been personally autographed auto-graphed by Redford and will be auctioned off to benefit the U.S. Film Festival in a fundraiser to be held at the Salt Lake Art Center Dec. 29. The collection is owned by designer Marilyn Nelson of Imagio, a Park City interior design firm. Nelson personally picked each poster from private collections over the last two years. She was assisted by partner Gladyce Begelman of Beverly Bev-erly Hills. California. Much of the collection has been in the possession of a private French collector and out of circulation for 18 to 25 years. Some of the most valuable posters from the French collection were created by famous European artists such as Macii, Soubie, Grinson and Allard. The titles include "Les Justiciers du Far West" ("The Lone Ranger" i. "King Kong." "Sahara" with Humphrey Bogart. "au Far West" ("Way out West" Laurel and Hardy), "If Tresor De La Sierra Madre," and "Pinoechio." The French collection also includes in-cludes several posters of Alfred Hitchcock movies where his elusive reflection appears as it has in all his movies. Also in the French collection are rare titles such as "Blood for Dracula" and "Splendor in the Grass." In Poland, artists competed for the honor of creating a painting to be used for a poster. Each poster was not a reflection of the actors featured in the movie, but a representation of the movie content. Graphics and vivid colors loved by the Eastern Europeans were used to create posters for "Wielki Gatsby" ("The Great Gatsby"), "Skodhi Ptak Mkodosci" ("Sweet Bird of Youth"), "Papiergwy Ksiezyc" ("Paper Moon") and others. The collection will be on display in Nelson's Salt Lake studio on Post Office Place after the Salt Lake Art Center show. |
