Pete Muezelaar and Michael Spencer are the artists behind Super Hero Schiller. by Nan Chalat You know how kids are about heroes they give them larger than life proportions. But how often are school principals portrayed por-trayed by their students as Super Heroes? Well, a large mural painted by the eighth graders at the Treasure Mountain Middle School looks unmistakeably like a cross between Superman and Principal Brian Schiller. The mural was painted by students Peter Meuzelaar and Michael Spencer. They used a photo of Schiller and projected it through an overhead enlarger to trace a caricature, then worked from a drawing of Superman for the costume and the musclebound pose. The result hangs above a kiva in the hallway alongside Superman and Superwoman in flight. The project was part of a schoolwide mural design unit in Andrea Morguloff's art classes. "We wanted to decorate the school," said Morguloff, who added the classes were also used to teach students how to work with acrylic paints. "They are really using some very sophisticated sophisti-cated techniques but they don't know it," she said. A mural-size replica of Wyeth's Cristina now hangs across from the counselor's office and a series of winter scenes adorns the main lobby. A four-foot by eight-foot map of Park City and another one of the world hang outside near the entrance to the school. The acrylic paints are water based but dry to a weatherproof finish, said Morguloff. The classes also produced a life-size logo for the school. The new Treasure Mountain Mountaineers Moun-taineers logo-was designed by'""" David Harrison, an eighth grader. Classmates Justin Rino and Shawn MacMillan executed the design on a five-foot high piece of plyboard. The logo will also be used on a school flag, Morguloff said.
