Show Ways to add magic and meaning to Christmas by Terl Gomes If you're looking for something to do Christmas Eve to make the night both magical and meaningful, there are a number of happenings in Park City that can fill the bill. Nearly all local churches plan special Christmas Eve services, and up at the Park City Ski Area there is a program of entertainment planned along with the traditional torchlight parade down the mountain. Santa will be roaming and skiing around the Park City Ski Area all day Monday, taking last-minute orders before his midnight ride. Then, beginning at 4 p.m. at the base cafeteria, there will be a dramatic Christmas reading, a performance by a brass ensemble group and some favorite Christmas stories. At 4 :30, still in the cafeteria, the Christmas caroling will begin to be followed by a short candlelight service conducted by Pastor David Krueger. At 5:15 plans call for the group to move outdoors to begin the watch for Santa at the head of the famous torchlight parade. A Santa chant helps the jolly old elf know its time to ski down the mountain. The torchlight parade is planned for 5 :30 on the Pay Day run. Also at 5:30 is one of the two Christmas Eve services planned for St. Mary's Catholic Church, 121 Park Ave. The other service is a traditional midnight mass that begins with carol singing at 11:30 p.m. The Baptists are scheduled to hold a service in their chapel at the MountAirMall, 1700 Park Ave., at7 p.m. The Community Church, 402 Park Ave., will hold services at 7 p.m. and 8:30. Episcopalians will gather at St. Luke's Church, 525 Park Ave., at 8 p.m. while the Lutherans will be using St. Mary's facilities for a service also due to begin at 8 p.m. The non-denominational, Christ-centered Chapel Fellowship will have a candlelight service at the Treasure Mountain Middle School from 7 to 9 p.m. Should your little ones miss Santa on Christmas Eve, the folks at the Park City Ski Area have arranged for him to return after his big night and ski with children of all ages Christmas Day, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Whatever you choose to do, "To all a good night." |
