Show Planetarium theatre to reopen with Digistar show "Journey with Digistar," the Hansen Planetarium's first star show using the new Digistar star projection system, will open on March 29 at 7 p.m. It marks fhe public reopening of the Hansen's star theater, v - ' ' The Plantarium is located at 15 South State St. in Salt Lake. "Digistar is so new that (we) are still discovering some problem areas in the system's software," said Planetarium Director Von Del Chamberlain. "A slight delay in opening (an early March date had been set) is better than a high risk of technical failure during shows. When-we do resume our public schedule, the premiere show will feature outstanding outstand-ing Digistar effects blended with our usual high-quality art and special effects." The problems responsible for the delayed reopening are primarily in the computer software that makes Digistar a unique instrument. Debugging existing programming and creating new special effects programs with Digistar is a complex project, officials said. The delays, however, have not prevented school groups from visiting the planetarium. Elementary school shows with Digistar began March 5. The simpler school programs could be completed earlier than the more complicated public shows. In addition to the Digistar program, a Clio awards film will be shown.
