Show Kamas Valley takes a tumble So Kamas Valley isn't invincible after all. Just when it seemed Kamas would go through the men's basketball league season without a loss, along came Texas Red's. In a low-scoring game at the Treasure Mountain Middle -School last week, Red's shocked Kamas 42-38. However, in spite of the loss, Kamas held on to first place in the . standings with a 7-1 record. "Kamas was just cold," noted Mike Osher of the Park City Recreation Department. "They couldn't hit a basket if they wanted to." Bill Hart was the leading scorer for Red's with 12 points, while Rob Harrison added 10. Kenny Walker was the high point man for Kamas Valley with 13. The loss by Kamas allowed the I second-place Recreation Department team (6-2) to move closer to the lead Last week saw the Rec. Dept. overrun the Alamo 65-55. Setting the pace for the Rec. Dept. was Rick Widdison who scored 24 points and, according to Osher, "was all over the boards." Jimmy Austin kept the Alamo in the game with 21 points. In the other league game last week, Cofer Chiropractic plunked the Yarrow 67-48. Bob Scheinblum had 16 points for the winner while Brian Jeppson scored 18 for the Yarrow. The opening round will see the first-place team (at the end of the regular season) play the sixth-place team. In other games the second-place team will play the fifth-place team while the third-place team will play the fourth-place team. The highest-ranked team emerging emerg-ing from the first round will qualify automatically for the championship game. The winners of the other two first-round contests will play each other in the second round for the right to compete in the championship. champion-ship. The following week (March 24-30) the Treasure Mountain gym will be used by the Special Olympics. However, Osher said the gym would be available for open play during the first two weeks of April. |
