MOVIES- JM$k -The Salt Lake City Library R continues its Utah Movie Actresses vlfil J series with "Journey for Margaret" ifl jf on March 15. The Utahn is Laraine fT Day, but the story's focus is on Margaret O'Brien as an orphan of World War II and Robert Young as her adopted father. The film shows at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (for 50 cents). The library is at 209 East 500 South. At the Blue Mouse: Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" plays in its complete, uncut version; in "Fitzcarraldo," director Werner Herzog duplicates the mad feat of his hero, hauling a ship through the Amazon; "Brimstone and Treacle" shows a weird stranger (Sting) insinuating himself into a troubled family; Karen Black stars in "Killing Heat" as a South African woman gripped by old racial attitudes and repressed sexuality. The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. Play it again, Sam.... and again. "Casablanca" appears at the Utah Media Center. The classic World War II romance stars Bogart, with Ingrid Bergman, Claude Rains, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet. It plays on March 15 (9:30p.m.), 16 (7:30) and 17 (5:30and 9:30.) The co-hit is "Play It Again, Sam" with Woody Allen as a film buff who uses Bogart to guide him in his affair with his best friend's wife (Diane Keaton, in her first Allen film.) It plays on March 15 (7:30 p.m.), 16 (5:30 and 9:30) and 17 (7:30.) The films play in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Media Center, 20 South West Temple. General adult admission is $2.50 for each film or $3.50 for the double feature. MUSIC Caribbean rocker John Bayley Jf'w plays at the Cowboy Bar at 9:30 p.m. vT,w-March vT,w-March 14 through 16. J7 The Utah Symphony plays with yT flutist Erich Graf on March 15 and 16 at Symphony Hall, 123 West South Temple. The program, also including Bernstein and Bartok, begins at 8 p.m. The Zephyr Club, at 301 South West Temple, presents Spencer Davis (March 14-16), Montana (March 17) and the inimitable Blood, Sweat and Tears on March 18 and 19. Master of the flute, Jean-Pierre Rampal, appears at Symphony Hall on Tuesday, March 19 at 8 p.m. Tickets at $12-10-8 available at Symphony Hall and ZCMIDatatix outlets. Sing, Dennis! Famed tenor Dennis Day headlines Irish Night with the Utah Symphony on March 18 at 8 p.m. in Symphony Hall. Harold Gottfredson conducts the orchestra, co-billed with the McTeggart Irish Dancers. Tickets, priced from $6 to $12, available at the Symphony box office, Basil's in Trolley Square or Deseret Book outlets. The prestigious Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg will play Tuesday, March 19 at the Browning Center of Ogden's Weber State College. The program of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven begins at 8 p.m. The Beach Boys will do their bit for Special Olympics, with a benefit concert on March 20 at Symphony Hall. Diana Ross comes to the Salt Palace on March 31 at 7:30 p.m. Reserved tickets at $13.50 and $15.50 available at the Palace, ZCMI stores, Special Events Center, Tape Head and Disc Jockey Records. The Scottish group Aztec Camera plays on Tuesday, March 19 at the Utah State Fairgrounds Horticulture Building. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $10 the day of the show and $9 advance at Cosmic Aeroplane, Smokey's Records, Tape Head and Datatix outlets. THEATRE A "This is the Place," a musical -ss r salute to Park City, stars Mike f Eberlein, Collyn Adamson and Ruth V f Ann Fitzgerald. It plays every V-J Friday and Saturday, at 8 p.m. mr-through mr-through March, at the Egyptian Theatre on Main Street. "Tales From Hans Christian Anderson," a Young People's Theatre presentation, plays at the Pioneer Memorial Theater on March 20 at 4: 15 p.m. For more information call 581-6961. ETCETERA GJXL, $m in -The Kimball Art Center )C5s?L ' presents painters Tom Mulder and 0 Corke Pepper and sculptor Gary 4 , - ir J J Slater in exhibits' running to April 4. The Old Town Art Gallery, at 1101 Park Ave., presents sculptor Elijah David Herschler and acrylic artist Jean Shadrach in an exhibit that runs through March 29. Comedian Pat Paulsen appears at the all-comedy nightclub Cartoons March 14 through 17. Tickets should be purchased in advance. Cartoons is at 2201 South Highland Drive, behind Peter Piper Pizza. For further information call 485-7550. A major figure of contemporary art is saluted in "Henry Moore: The Reclining Figure" at the U. of U. Utah Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibit, featuring photos, drawings and sketches of Moore's sculptures, runs through May 12. Admission is $2 or 50 cents for studentsseniors. The Masque Moderne, presented March 16 at the Salt Lake Art Center at 7 p.m., features Renaissance music from Ricklen Nobis and group, Brazilian music from Tom Kehoe and accompanying musicians, mime by Joe Pitti, the Ririe-Woodbury dancers and food and drink from Brazil. Tickets at $12 each can be purchased at the sponsor, Jaz Ranch Bistro, (147 West Broadway.) A priceless collection of Chinese jade carvings is on exhibit at the Salt Lake Art Center through April 25. This rare exhibit spanning over 4,000 years, is on tour to only five cities in this hemisphere. In Salt Palace sports action, the Eagles play Indianapolis on March 14 and Fort Wayne on March 20. The Utah Jazz play Kansas City on March 15 and Golden State on the 18th. Finally, All-Star Wrestling shake the rafters on March 19. |
