Local skiers sizzle in JO warm-up race by Dave Adler Stephanie Palmer, Shannon Nobis and Ali Salomon warmed up for the forthcoming Junior Olympics las't FYiday and Saturday by carving up the competition on their home turf as the Intermountain Division ski racing circuit made a stop in Park City. The trio, which was selected to the Intermountain Division Junior Olympic Olym-pic Team, strutted its stuff before the home crowd by dominating the downhill competition. Stephanie Palmer, who was Xhe. first skier named to the JO team, had a stranglehold on the first-place trophy throughout the season. She refused to loosen her grip as she once again claimed a double victory in the JII (ages 14-15) competition. "Stephanie has been skiing very well all year long," said JII coach Ray Dicius. Cammy Potter and Bridget Leschorn, both of whom were named to the JO team, finished fifth and 10th respectively. On Saturday, Crist was again runner-up, while Kristina Kjeldsberg of Romark finished third. Potter was fifth and Leschorn 13 th. In the JED (ages 12-13) girls' events, Shannon Nobis and Ali Salomon shared top honors over the weekend. On Friday, Ali edged Shannon for first place by 30 one-hundredths of a second. Falesha Farero of Ogden Valley finished third. Park City skiers Hilary Felton, Essie Doilney and Jill Maasberg, all of whom qualified for the Junior Olympics, finished fifth, sixth and eighth respectively. On Saturday, Shannon regained the first place trophy from Ali by a mere 14 one-hundredths of a second. Muffy Davis of Sun Valley was third, while Doilney, Felton and Maasberg came in fourth, sixth and eighth. The JII and jm Park City boys didn't fare as well as the girls, but turned in a strong performance nevertheless. Bret Johnson and Danny Tebbs, who were selected to the JO team, paced the local skiers. Johnson garnered a pair of seconds in JII action. He finished runner-up on both days to Ryan . Dean of Sun Valley. Curtis Sneddon of Ogden Valley was third place. On Friday, Junior Olympics-bound Jeremy Nobis, Jere Calmes and Jake Doilney finished ninth, 15th and 27th respectively among JII skiers. Scott Cartier was 11th, Scott Black 24th, and Nord Sandstrom 60th. In Saturday's JII competition, Cartier finished fifth, Black 10 th, Nobis 19th, Calmes 22nd, Erik Johnson 31st, Doilney 32nd, and Sandstrom 58th. In JUI action on Friday, Greg Sneddon of Ogden Valley captured the first of a pair of first-place trophies. Park City's Danny Tebbs was second and Ian Tubbs of Jackson Hole was third. Park City's Carter Gregory was 18 th, while teammates Ross Toelke and C.J. Baltz finished 29th and 32nd respectively. Jason Parkin, a JIV skier (ages 10-11) turned in an impressive 28 th place finish.. On Saturday, Sneddon led Morten Skramstad and Eric Baughman. of Snowbird who finished second and third respectively.
