MOVIES "The Seven Samurai," the Japanese film that inspired the "Magnificent Seven," continues the Akura Kurosawa festival at the Salt Lake City Library, 209 East 500 South. A peasant village besieged by bandits hires seven professional fighters (the youngest played by Toshiro Mifune) to defend them. It plays at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25. Admission is $2.50. At the Blue Mouse: Take your choice from the classical atmosphere of "Backstage at the Kirov" or the modern steps in the movie "Dance Craze." Also, Eagle Pennell eulogizes a Texas bar in "Last Night at the Alamo" and for Halloween, Klaus Kinski plays the vampire in Herzog's remake of "Nosferatu." The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. The City Library's Ghost series ends Friday, Oct; 26, with "The Haunting," Robert Wise's suggestive haunted-house story with Julie Harris, Russ Tamblyn and Claire Bloom. It plays at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (50 cents). The Utah Media Center looks back at the '60s with two films. "Midnight Cowboy" was the first X-rated flick to win best picture, but is remembered today for its story of male friendship between naive Joe Buck (Jon Voight) and Ratso Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman). It plays on Oct. 26 (9:30 p.m.), Oct. 27 (7:30 p.m.) and Oct. 28 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.). Milos Forman's "Hair" looks back at the era from the '70s perspective, as a Straight (John Savage) encounters a band of hippies led by Treat Williams and Beverly D'Angelo. It plays on Oct. 26 (7:30 p.m.), Oct. 27 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.) and Oct. 28 (7:30 p.m.). The films play in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Media Center, 20 South West Temple. MUSIC The Utah Symphony CI amber Orchestra performs at the Ogden Hilton Hotel on "Friday Oct. 26 and Symphony Hall on Saturday, Oct. 27. The program, with violin soloist and conductor Oscar Shumsky, features works by Schubert, Tchaikovsky and Bach. Performances are at 8 p.m., with an $8 admission. The English punk band A Flock of Seagulls plays Sunday Oct. 28, at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. Tickets are $12. Helen Reddy lights up the Celebrity Showroom, Oct. 25-27 with two dinner shows at the Elks Building, 139 East South Temple. Chicago is a hard habit to break, and fans are sure to flock to their concert Halloween night, Oct. 31 , at the BYU Marriott Center, 7 :30 p.m. Tickets are $12 reserved at Datatix outlets. Admission is $6 and $12 for the 8 p.m. concert at Symphony Hall. THEATRE Children of the night will stalk the Egyptian Theatre stage at Park City Performances' "Dracula." It plays Oct. 25-27 and Halloween night, Oct. 31. General admission is $5.50. Presented by Walk-Ons at Theatre 138 (138 South Second East), it plays Thursday-Saturday through Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. -Dylan Thomas' "Under Milkwood" is presented in readers' theater by the Dance Theatre Coalition on Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 2-4 at 8 p m at the Utah Artist Guild, 1150 East 2100 South. Admission is $4 and $2 50 for seniors. ETCETERA The Kimball Art Center in Park City presents paintings by Paul Davis in the Main Gallery and works by Kent Price in the Lower Gallery. The exhibit runs through Nov. 1. "Once Upon a Starry Night" at Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State plays weekdays (11 a.m., 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m.), Saturdays (2, 4:30 and 7) and Sundays (2 and 4:30 p.m.).
