Show Work on mathscience wing to begin this week A Layton contractor told the Park City Board of Education last week that he will try to finish the high school's new mathscience wing in time for the opening of school next fall. By doing so his company would earn a $27,000 early completion bonus. Bob Peterson of Valley Design and Construction submitted the lowest of four bids which were received by the school board last week. In a special meeting Thursday the board awarded award-ed the contract to Peterson with an additional $250 per day bonus if the wing is completed before Dec. 20, 1985. Peterson's base bid of $919,880 was $23,120 less than the next lowest bid. The board also approved Peterson's additional bid of $11,472 for the wing's proposed enclosed courtyard. According to the high school's architect, Ralph Edwards, Peterson has done construction in this area and "feels confident about pressing through the winter here." Peterson told the board his firm built East Canyon Resort, a $500,000 elementary elemen-tary school and a $2.7 million fire station in Salt Lake City. School Board President Gary Avise asked Peterson if he intended to make the early completion deadline. Edwards responded for Peterson, saying, "Let's not be too optimistic. We don't know how the winter will go, but we should know better by next spring." The early completion bonus was added to the contract in response to parent and teacher concerns about the adequacies of the current high school science facilities to meet the students' needs. , . I |
