Show DECLARES BEAUTIFUL WOMEN ARE RARE. An Italian sociologist who pretends to be an authority, writing In La Roma, declares that beautiful women are extremely rare birds. England, according to the connoisseur, is the country most prolific in beauties one woman in 1,200 there being so classed. Italy and Spain, he says, have one in 2,200, and France one in 2,500. There are no beautiful German women at all, he soberly asserts. As for American women, there are no such things, he tells us ; in this country we have women of all races, but no national type as yet. All of which makes very interesting reading, but has no sense to it. Beauty Is a matter of personal opinion entirely and it is absurd for anyone to set himself up as a dictator on the subject. Young Paris might have given the golden apple to Juno instead of Venu except that his personal preference was for blondes and not brunenes. The women of many of the savage races distort parts of their bodies into all kinds of fanciful shapes in order to make themselves more lovely In the eyes of the opposite, sex, and we believe this is done even among civilized peoples, Eut standards of beauty still remain a matter of personal view. A dog-fancier may tell you that a bulldog is more beautiful than a collie but that doesn't make it so. |
