Parratl, sec-: sec-: rotary of the Utah State Historical so-jiciety, so-jiciety, sends us the following letter: ,1 Of course you are aware that J' a very great deal is being said !; these days in relation to woman suffrage, and perhaps interested ' in the matter throughout the coun-j; coun-j; try was never at a higher pitch li than at present. It occurs to us !i that you may be interested in knowing that fifty years ago the twelfth of next month the following follow-ing act passed by the nineteenth annual session of the legislative assembly of the Territory of j Utah was regularly approved. AN ACT. jji Conferring upon women the I elective franchise. (Approved ! Feb. 12, 1S70.) I Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the I j governor aand legislative assem-j assem-j . bly of the Territory of Utah: That ; i overy -woman of the age of 21 j years who has residod in this tcr- l ritory six months next preceding j ! any general or special election, j born or naturalized In the United I j States, or .who Is the wife, widow i, or. the daughter of a native-born , or naturalized citizen of the Unit-5! Unit-5! cd States, shall be entitled to vote ' 3 at any election in this territory, u Sec. 2. All laws or part of laws I j conflicting with this act are herein here-in by repealed. |
