Show NEW MUSE OF NERVOUSNESS; Knitting Nervousness Result, of Concentration of Mind on Needles and Stitches. ; I NEW YORK, Dec. 26. "Knitting' nervousness' 'Is caused by concentra-1 tion of mind on needles and stitches.' Thousands of women In New York are now afflicted, according to Louis Welshmuller, physical director of the West Side Y. M. C. A., who adds that his only patients showing symptoms of the war-time complaint have been women. Dr. Welshmuller said that that there is liable to be an epidemic of "knitting nervousness" unless knitters knit-ters learn to knit properly. He offers tho following advice as a remedy: "Don't hunch over your knitting; sit upright and when your mind tells you you have knitted enough, quit. There are 365 days in a year and you can't fishin a sweater in a day, no matter how much you love a soldier or a sailor." Dr. C P. Christenaon, president of the Pschycological Research society, concurred in the predictions of Dr. Welshmuller. He attributed the nerve scourge to the failure of the women folk to comprehend the "vibrations of nerve laws." He continued: "The women are overworking themselves. Knitting has become a craze. Nerves cannot stand the strain." oo |
