BE REGULATED : On next Tuesday, the United States, , for the first time in its history, will jj be under a modified prohibition as ap-I ap-I plied to the manufacture of liquor. 11 On that date the President's proclaim procla-im mation of August 10 will become ef-( ef-( fectivo, and for one year at least no r, malt liquor shall be produced contain- ing more than 2?S per cent of alcohol, j and no person shall use more than 70 ? per cent of the amount of foods, fruits, 1,1 food materials and feeds used by such 3 person in the manufacture of malt li- r quor during the year 1917. h All manufacturers of beer and other I malt liquors must secure a license ,1 from the government and be under J constant federal supervision. I This means that, while the output i of beer may equal in gallons the pro- t duction of this year, the alcoholic con- tents will be cut down 30 per cent I This Is declared to be a war meas- 5 ure for the purpose of conserving our f food supplies during the war period, Cj but tho prospects are it will become i a permanent rule, either through the j perpetuating of the presidential power a to regulate the liquor production or by 1 1 direct legislation.
