Show Federal Mediation Expected by Striking Mechanics on Pacific Coast. SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 26. Only part of the 15,000 iron trades mechanics mechan-ics employed in industries other than shipbuilding In the San Francisco bay region kept their threat to strike today to-day for a 10 per cent wage bonus, according ac-cording to reports received at the California Cali-fornia Metal Trades association, the employers' organization, from owners of foundries, R. W. Burton, president of the Iron Trades' Council, said the order to strike was in effect and only the men who had not obeyed the strike order were those that had not been formally notified of its existence. Burton estimated all of the 16,000 men affected on both sides of San Francisco bay would be on strike today. to-day. Employers in whos9 plants all workmen struck closed their shops in anticipation of federal mediation. Those employers in whose foundries only part of their men walked out continued con-tinued work that was possible without the striking workers. |
