Show SARGENT TO PAINT WILSON'S PORTRAIT LONDON, June 8, 3:50 a. m.-Ac- tl cording to the Dublin correspondent fr of the Times, John Sargent has accepted ac-cepted a proposal from the governors of the national gallery of Ireland to paint a portrait of President "Wilson It Is recalled that Sir Hugh Lane, who was drownedon the Lusitania, offered 10,000 for a portrait which' Sargent had undertaken to paint in behalf of tho Red Cross. Sir Hugh Lane bequeathed the prospective pros-pective picture to the Irish national i gallery and the bequest was confirmed ( in a court decision handed down on I Wednesday. James Stephens, writing 1 on behalf of the gallery governors, J said to the president: I "It is the opinion qt the board that f tho portrait of the greatest American 1 president, painted by the greatest I American artist, would be a real ac- a; quisitlon." |
