This statement Is made on the au- i thority and with the consent of Lieu- j tenant Colonel Chauncey B. Baker of. S the quartermaster general's office at j the war department In Washington. I Colonel Baker further states that the j army will make use of only new trucks ' j and cars, which It is confident of be- j ing able to obtain In sufficient numbers num-bers from the manufacturers, and that ' efforts will be made by the quarter-1 master's department, to so distribute i j orders as not to interfere seriously i with the filling of orders from private j customers by any factory- I The depot quartermaster at Chicago j has already called for bids to supply j 70,000 motor trucks and 4,000 passenger passen-ger cars for the fiscal year ending June 30, -1918. This number of trucks Is considered sufficient for an army of i 2,000,000 men. |
