SPRINGFIELD, Mo., June 9 Lloyd Keet is dead. The finding of the body in an old well today ended a nationwide nation-wide search begun May 30, when the child was taken from his cradle by kidnapers. J. The remains were found by friends of the Keet family acting on private information The belief was general that the baby had been thrown into the well when abductors, fearing for their own safety, safe-ty, were forced to abandon the child. Federal authorities today joined in the investigation of the alleged abduction abduc-tion plot activities of the seven persons per-sons bping held In connection with the kidnaping in the belief that they may have been concerned in German plots to tie up the munitions traffic. SPRINGFIELD, Mo., June 8. Tho body of Lloyd Keet, 14-months-old son of J. Holland Keet, wealthy banker, was found in a well on the Crenshaw farm here today, according to reliable reports. The report came by telephone from investigators wno had gone to the farm in response to information, the source of which has not been revealed. The child was kidnaped more than a week ago. The Crenshaw farm, eight miles from here, recently was searched by authorities after it had been named In alleged statements given by seven suspects under arrest hero. An old house there, deserted for several years, was said to have been chosen as the headquarters for the alleged "abduction syndicate," which planned to kidnap C. A. Clement, wealthy Jeweler Jew-eler here, and a St. Louis munitions maker. Tho Keet baby was stolen from the family home here the night of May 30. His parents had gone to a dance and the baby was left with a nurse and an older son. Three men were bd lleved to be the abductors and it is assumed they took tho baby from the crib and escaped In an automobile. The body, wrapped in a woman's underskirt, un-derskirt, was partly decomposed and apparently had been in the well two or three days, according to the report. Paul O'Day, county prosecutor, later went to tho farm and Identified tho body as that of tho Keet child. Fearing possible mob violence, seven prisoners held in connection with tho abduction here have been taken hurriedly hur-riedly out of the city, their destination not having been announced. |
