Show I Salt Lake Outhits Portland 13 to 6, hut Looses Game by Scoreof 7 to 3 : 1 1 BEAVERS WALLOP SALT LAI BEES Portland Makes Six Hits to ! Bees Thirteen But Scores Wit j 7 to 3 Against Utahns. !' PORTLAND, June 8. Although Portland mado only six hits today and Salt Lake thirteen, the Beavers scored 1 seven runs to throo for the Bees. There was a reason for this, as tho 1 Bees were the victims of gilt-edged Hllr fielding on the part of the Beavers, Hj'l; Wilie and Rodgers making several Jl wonderful catches and stops which I killed Salt Lake's chances of scoring. Timely application of the hits they I did make also helped the Beavers, i while Babe Borton, with two doubles, drove in five of tho runs, as his drives cleared the bases, once with them all populated and once with two on tho paths, I Stanley Dougan was also the victim , of circumstances. Stan has had but a brief stay in the Coast league on ! this, his second appearance. He should , learn that it's a bad thing to issuo passes, particularly so when they are turned into runs. Dougan passed only I five men during the game, but each of them was converted into a score. j which were more than enough to win the game. When it was announced that the Beavers were to faco a right bander for a change the men nearly wept with joy Manager Bernhard has been I starting nothing but southpaws against B$ , them so far this week, and he still had H Rube Evans left. It's an open secret H ' that five Beavers don't like southpaw H pitching and they welcomed the H 1 change. H At the start it looked as if the Bees H , were going right after Tenner to give Hl him a warm reception. They did, but Hl he was lucky, and Portland got all the f breaks, which went to the Bees yes-1 yes-1 terday HI .
