Show oo ; H GREAT SECRETS I Information Endangering the IH American Navy in Posses- j H sion of the Germans. H WASHINGTON. June 9. Secretary H Daniels today issued the following H statement: H "The navy department has reason to ( believe that information of a character H most valuable to the enemy and which H might prove most disastrous to the H navy has in some way reached tho H enemy. H "In view of the strenuous efforts H that have been made to prevent the H dissemination of such Information the H department believes that, in practic- H ally every instance, this has resulted j H from certain information being given H in confidence to. or spoken in the pres- H ence of a close relative or a friend H who, failing to appreciate the gravity M of the offense, Inadvertently trans- H mitted it into the hands of those who M , most desired to obtain it. M "The department has on previous M occasions endeavored to impress upon M everyone in the naval service the ur- M gent necessity for carefully guarding i H against the dissemination of any mil- I fl itary information which could possibly H be of advantage to an enemy. The IH situation at this time is entirely too H grave to permit of a continuance of H the present practice in this regard." H |
