An- H nouncement was made today that tho BritlBh official mission will finally :IH leave Washington this week for a brief H visit to Chicago, then visit Toronto, H Montreal and Ottawa. Shipping prob- H lems were discussed today first by Secretary Balfour with members of HIH Denman and Major General Goelhals 'H of tho shipping board. British trade H experts, In conference with Amorican H officials, have worked out accurately H tho amount of tonnage necessary to H contlnuo tho llfo flow to the allies, and H tho shipping board has a detailed pro- H gram for meeting that need. jH Tho British aro understood to have H supplied a priority schedule of the H order of importance of tho various ex- H ports, with the minimum amounts nee- H essary. At the same time they have H supplied the shipping board with full H figures of their total tonnage, new H construction and rato of depletion. H Rate of Destruction Dangerous. H Officials have stated frequently re- H ccntly that tho rate of destruction is most dangerous though not yet fatal. H Mr. Balfour today also saw J. P. H Morgan and It Is understood they dis- H cussed the future relations of Morgan H & Co. to tho British government Just H as the former have given up placing H loans, now that tho government is H doing that work, it is probablo that they will also give up the purchase of fl munitions and other supplies when H the detailed arrangements for a con- H tral official buying committee are com- H oo H |
