WASHINGTON, May 22. "Do not jH hide behind petticoats or children to IH avoid service in the new national 'JH army," is the injunction of Provost pH Marshal General Crowder, In an offi- JH cial guide he has issued to show how jpH questions put to those who register 1 on June 5 should be answered. Tho H guide explains that there is no desire M by the government to draft any one M who is the sole support of any man, M woman or child but points out that H "unless the person you havo in mind M is solely dependent on you" exemption pH would not be granted. M Some Obvious Exemptions. M Tho registrar will drop permanently M from .the list those which physical de- M fects, such as tho absence of a leg H or an arm, make unfitness for service H emption will be passed upon by tho iH local boards. The applicant will bo JB required to state specifically the char- 'H acter of the work he is performing in H order that the board may judge if it Is H such as to warrant the government's JH excusing him from army duty.
