Show HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SETTING THE PA'CE HONOLULU, T. H., May 22. The Hawaiian islands are setting the pace for people of the United States and its islands in food production. School children of cities and districts with names which the average American cannot pronounce arc In the midst of potato growing contests, bean growing contests and vegetable contests of all kinds, and also in a competition to write the best letters on gardening. The Hawaiian children, living in a warm climate, have the advantage over the boys and girls of the United State proper. The children of the "Paradise Islands" are already harvesting har-vesting and selling vegetables. Prizos of 25 for the best garden; $15 for the second best and $10 for the third best home grown gardens and school gardens, have been offered for the school children. There are six sets of these prices, for Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Molokai and Lanai, East Hawaii and West Hawaii. There are thirty-six different prizes. nn |
