Show TROOPS TO PARADE THIS FVFNINB V IRlFR Til STIR OP LOCAL INTEREST At 8:15 this evening, Troop B will parade through the business district for tho purpose of stirring up interest in recruiting for the National Guard. Last evening Troop K was out and, headed by Scowcroft's drum corps, made a very good impression. After the parade, five recruits were added to the local troops. Tomorrow night the soldier boys, in autos, will go to Huntsvillo and Eden, to stir up interest in Ogden valley. Thursday evening the local soldiers will again parade through the city and on Friday night they expect to be joined by tho Home Guard. Before conscription takes effect, the officers of tho local troops expect to fill out their forces to war strength. The soldiers are making an excellent excel-lent showing and are being aided in every way possible to creditably represent rep-resent Ogden. Young fellows who enlist In either troop B or K will have the companionship compan-ionship of their own home boys. When the hero volunteers of B troop pass by tonight, with the mus-ter-druni and martial music resounding, resound-ing, every young man of military age is to understand that it isn't a parade for fun, nor for pastime, nor for patriotic pa-triotic glory, but it will be fore the sole and express purposo of inviting every young man to climb aboard and enlist as honorable and patriotic volunteers vol-unteers for the honor and defense of the flag. In a few days the selective draft will be In operation. Troops B and K don't want conscripts. As a matter mat-ter of local prido and state patriotism, every member of tlieso crack cavalry commands must be volunteers, and every member will be In line for rapid and preferential promotion. Every eligible young man is urged to climb upon the trucks and he welcomed wel-comed as a real patriot, as a real man, willing to fighf tor his home and country coun-try without conscription. Tomorrow night the high school band will accompany the K troopers and Captain William E. Kneass will go with B troop members to Hunts-ville Hunts-ville and Eden to welcome some recruits. re-cruits. B troopers will march on Thursday night and both B and K will consolidate consoli-date for the grand parade on Friday J. Ray Ward and William E. Kneass conferred yesterday afternoon after-noon with Adjutant-General Williams at Salt Lake. It is almost a certainty that the Ogden Og-den troops will be sent forward for active service, 'provided they are recruited re-cruited to full strength without further delay. The now guns are the finest in the world. All other equipment is on the way. The war department officials are keenly Interested in the Ogden troops and inquire frequently whether they are recruited to full war- strength. Great things are expected" of them. They are to be given preferential treatment and advantageous positions In the now army of the nation. Royal Eccles, chairman of the transportation committee of the committee com-mittee on preparation and safety, has fully met all expectations in providing facilities for this week's recruiting work. Officers of B and K today praised highly both Mr. Eccles and the general committee and also tho Scow-croft Scow-croft fife and drum corps, which has done Its best for tho common cause. The Home Guard will drill tomorrow night and will probably take part, on foot, in tho big parade of Friday night The trucks in the rocruiting march every night this week are expressly provided for recruits and every man climbing aboard will be glvon a seat of honor and three rousing cheers. |
