Show Moid mi ikes mU ON 91RL ST HOT A fiendish act occurred in Ogden Friday night, May 4, at 11:15 o'clock at Twenty-first and Washington avenue. aven-ue. The accidental approach of two men undoubtedly prevented a terrible .tragedy. f A girl whose appearance is that of a young woman of 1G years, who is , employed until late at night in a certain cer-tain factory on Twenty-sixth street, started to her home, after work, on Adams avenue. She is a poor but a highly respectable girl. Her father Is dead and her mother is an invalid. She supports the little family by honest hon-est toil. She walked to the day nursery and crossed to the opposite corner to go to her home. At that point she was suddenly confronted by a negro. Glancing up and down the streets, seeing see-ing no one. the negro raised his arm and struck the girl a hard blow on the head. Tho effect showed ho was armed arm-ed with a rock or other weapon Tho girl fell prone, but managed to get up and in tho scuffle was knocked down four times. She struggled with the brute and sustained severe injuries to her neck, shoulder, arms, besides internal in-ternal injuries. Her body was black and blue. Tho girl screamed. Two men, coming com-ing out of an apartment house nearby, ran to her assistance and the colored man fled down Washington avenue. The two men telephoned immediately to the police station.V Detective Grant Syphers, acting as night sergeant, nnd Chauffeur William Dick responded, going go-ing to the scene in the police patrol wagon. The girl still was there. After Af-ter inquiring the nature of the trouble, trou-ble, the officers drove away down Twenty-first street, presumably in search of the miscreant. |
