LONDON, May 21, 4:10 p. m. It was announced today by Premier Lloyd George in the house of commons com-mons that the government proposed to summon immediately a convention of representative Irishmen in Iroland to submit to parliament a constitution for the government of Ireland. Premier Lloyd George stated today that the chairman of the proposed Irish Ir-ish convention will bo nominated by tho crown. "If a substantial engagement Is reached regarding tho chancer and scope of the constitution lVamed by the convention," said the premier, "tho government will take tho necessary steps to enable tho Imperial parliament parlia-ment to give legislative effect therein. Tho convention will be held with closed clos-ed doors." The convention, said tho premier, would be representative of the local governing bodies, tho churches, tho trade unions and commercial and educational edu-cational Interests and would lncludo Sinn Felners. The delegates would be chosen by the respective bodies. John Redmond, tne Nationalist leader, speaking after tho premier had made his announcement, said that for tho flrst time In her history' Ireland has been asked virtually to settle a problem prob-lem for herself.
