At the present time M thirty runners are entered, and while H only one of this number finished in fl the first twelve last year, the officials H! expect to see some dark horses step H forward and uncork some regular H speed. H On account of the war movement, B which has been in progress in this H country for about a month, many of H Colorado's best athletes will not be in H the fray. Ralph Thompson and Carl m i Shadowan, two of the best men in the H state, will be unable to compete on H account of being in service for Uncle M Sam a great many miles distant from B jl Denver. Shadowan was the fifth man H to finish last year and was regarded H ' as one of the strongest men entered M to date for the initial position. B l With Colorado's best bets out of the M I running, It appears as if the first two M ' places might go to the boys from Utah. M ' Al Warden, the crack high school run- H , ner, is covering the distance like a B ft veteran, according to word received H here, while Ted Johnson, the veteran H of many local grinds, is also in tiptop m 1 1 shape. Warden will enter his first H race on foreign soil, and despite this B fact he Is being backed strongly by H many Denverites to cop the initial po- H sition. The Utah runners will leave m Salt Lake on Thursday, May 31, and H will arrive here the following day. |
