Show IEMILY K. PERRY HAS FBE REASONS FOB wDMurs rany I Emily K. Perry of the National Woman's Party arrived in Ogden at ; noon today to continue her work for I the organization of a branch . of the I Woman's Party In Ogden, as the County seat of Weber County. Miss Perry has been in Salt Lake for the past few days, where, with Miss Jane Pincus of New York, she has been holding a series of drawing room and street meetings In behalf of this new move of the women of the East to obtain the franchise. In an inter-yIaw- nn srrivinf in Dfrlon Mica I Perry made the following statement, regarding the aims and purpose of the Woman's Party. "I should like very much to get this statement before the public," Raid Miss Perry, "to help clear up the lack of understanding that seems to exist regarding the political status of the Woman's Party. "1st. I should like to make very clear that the Woman's Party has no affiilliation whatever with any one politival party, more than with any other party. It is equally friendly with the Socialist, Socialist Labor, Prohibition and republican parties because none of the above parties has yet been in a position to deliberately deliber-ately block all federal suffrage legislation. legis-lation. If any one of these parties gets into power in the Capital of the nation and, by use of its committee and caucus power, deliberately stands In the way of national woman suffrage, suf-frage, then the Woman's Party will use its force against that party, just as it has been forced to do against the Democratic party, now in control con-trol of both Houses of Congress. "2. The finances of the Woman's Party are raised entirely by voluntary volun-tary contributions, and none is accepted ac-cepted if known to be from any candidate can-didate for office on a national party ticket. Many of the largest contributors contribu-tors to the Woman's Party are strong democrats,, who have in many instances in-stances campaigned for President Wilson in different states, but who realizing his opposition to federal suffrage are now reusing him their support. 3. The husband of one of the leaders of the Woman's Party is a candidate or election on the Independent Democratic-ticket in California, but tLat fact has not caused the withdrawal of her support from the struggle of the women to obtain enfranchisement. enfranchise-ment. 4th. If President Wilson had for one day given the support to federal woman suffrage that he has given so freely to other matters in the congress con-gress of the United States, the Woman's Wo-man's Party would not have been a necessity. 5th. If tomorrow President Wilson withdraws his opposition to the federal fed-eral suffrage amendment being submitted sub-mitted and ratified In Congress, the Woman's Party will immediately withdraw its opposition to him, because be-cause the women realize the power of this one man over the present I Congress of the "United States, and believe that if he once came out before be-fore the public and withdrew his executive ex-ecutive opposition to this measure, It would speedily become a fact as far as the Congress of the ITnited States can make it. It would then rest before be-fore the several state legislatures until ratified. |
