Show ' Chicago Grain Chicago, Aug. 20. Despite weakness weak-ness at the outset, wheat prices today to-day soon showed a decided tendency to recover from yesterday's severe setback. Selling pressure was much less pronounced than had been generally gen-erally been expected and a number of leading houses were conspicuous buyers. buy-ers. Freezing temperature in northern Saskatchewan, where the crop Is late, . had considerable effect toward giving fresh courage to the bulls. The opening, open-ing, which ranged 2 5-Sc off to 3-Sc up with September at $1,401-4 to $1.41, and December at $1.43 3-S to $1.44 1-8, was followed by a material advance all around, but there was something of a reaction. Corn reflected the wheat strength. After opening l-4c to 3-4c lower, the market rose to well above yesterday's level. Oats took the same course as other cereals. Early weakness quickly gave place to a noticeably firmer feeling. Higher prices on hogs lifted provisions. pro-visions. Pork led the advance. Sharp .additional gains In wheat were scored later. The close was unsettled, un-settled, 2 5-Sc to 3 l-2c net higher, with September at $1.43 1-2 and December De-cember at $1.47 to $1.47 1-4. Hogs advanced in value today owing to fact that arrivals ar-rivals here were not overplentiful. Cattle, too, proved scarce.
