Show a n BIEDSIiy i - The funeral of Daniel Hamer was held yesterday afternoon in the tabernacle, taber-nacle, with Bishop O. M. Sanderson of the Sixth ward presiding. Several hundred friends and relatives of former form-er court reporter, including members of the Salt Lake and Ogden Bar associations, asso-ciations, attended the service and his bier was covered and surrounded with a wealth of floral tribuled. Special organ music was played by Tabernacle Taber-nacle Organist Sam F. Whltaker while the body was being borne in and out o the house of worship and the program pro-gram of vocal music rendered during the service was as follows: Duets. "Come Holy Spirit" and "Prayer," Douglass Brian and Annie Williamson; William-son; "One Sweetly Solemn Thought," Mrs. Fred G. Clark; "Our Heavenlv Home," Robert Binnle, and "The Christian's Good Night," Josephine Shorten. A violin solo, "Andante Symphony," was played by Claude N. Sweeten of Salt Lake Citv. The speakers, all of whom highly eulogized the life of Mr. Hamer and said that by his death Utah lost one of its valued citizens, were C C. Richards. Rich-ards. United States District Judge Tillman D. Johnson. Apostle David O. McKay, Franklin S. Richards and Bishop Sanderson. The following resolutions res-olutions of respect to the memory of the deceased adopted Jby the Ogden Bar association and the Democratic County Coun-ty convention, were read at the service: ser-vice: "Whereas, The Supreme Judge has arrested the hand of our brother, Daniel Hamer, while yet In full vigor of manhood and In the midst of a useful career, now, "Be It Resolved by the Weber County Coun-ty Bar association, That, in his death the state loses a valued citizen, the bar asoclation a cherished member and -the officers of the court one who has excelled In skill, industry and devotion de-votion to duty. "A native son, Danivd Hamer crystallized crys-tallized some of the possibilities "of the state of Utah at such an early age as to make one marvel. He took hold of the different departments of official offi-cial life, advancing step by step from deputyship In ministerial offices to department head; a financial season through the collectorship of Weber county and a legislative term by reason rea-son of being elected state senator. ("After this he became at alternate times a most skillful reporter and a sound lawyer. Always deeply lnter- terested In public questions.be brought to their discussion an analytical mind, forecfu advocacy and sometimes a keen thrust, that made the adversary look closely to his caso. Now at the half century milestone, the summons Is served and yet before more than the title Is rend judgment Ib entered. The resolutions adopted Saturday by tho Democratic county convention read as follows: "Whereas, In tho fulness and prom-lso prom-lso of life our friend and brother, Hon. Daniel Hamer, has been called to his great reward; and, "Whereas, His private and public life for many years had been so closely close-ly associated with us that we had regarded him as an honored member mem-ber of the great Democratic party of this county; and, "Whereas, His loyalty to party was as unquestioned as his never-dying friendships, and his integrity as sincere sin-cere and resolute as his graces and accomplishments were perfect; therefore, there-fore, be It. "Resolved, That In tho passing of our beloved friend and brother the community at large has lost one of its most fearless, active and accom-pished accom-pished members and citizens, the defender, de-fender, and his wife a loving and most devoted husband; and, be it further "Resolved, That a copy of this resolution reso-lution be published and transmitted to the widow." oo |
