Assessor O. M. Sanderson. Recorder Miss Katherine Hlggln-botham. Hlggln-botham. Attorney Charles L. Farr. Sheriff Herbert C. Peterson. Surveyor J. M. Lentz. Constable Thomas E. Cunningham. The Weber county Democratic convention con-vention was concluded shortly before 7 o'clock Saturday evening with the giving of authority to the county central cen-tral committee to put candidates In the field for Justice of the peace and constable in the country precincts. Tlio nnmlnntlnrr rV thn rniinfv tir.kftt did not begin until after 4 o'clock and, while the contests for legislative posl-tlons, posl-tlons, four and two-year term commissioner commis-sioner and sheriff created considerable considera-ble ecitement. the other positions were filled almost without opposition to the first candidate named. George E. Browning placed in 'nomiantion for state senator by James L. Barker and W. J. Parker was named by C. C. Richards. On the first ballot, the vote was a tie, but Parker won on the second ballot, the vote being 69 to IS. Good politics were played In the not act, wherein the candidates for state representatives were named. A letter from the railway trainmen's organization or-ganization of Ogden asking for representation repre-sentation on the Democratic legislative legisla-tive ticket was read by Secretary Dobbs and followed up with a speech by H. E Mclntyre, a representative of the tralnment'a organization of Salt Lake. City. The proffer of the united support of the members of the four railroad employees brotherhoods now in the limelight in this locality was pledged to tho Democratic party in return for recognition in tho manner man-ner asked. Mr. Mclntyre also stated that there were 100 or more women in Ogden, members of the trainmen's auillaries, who had never been registered regis-tered but that they would register and vote if a representative of the trainmen's train-men's order was placed on the ticket. D Jj. Boyle was recommended for nomination and, in addition to the letter let-ter of endorsement and that of Mr. Mclntyre, he rccolved that of several of the delegates present. In tho voting thnt followod, D. L. Boyle. D. D, McKay, J. S. Campbell and J. G. Widdison, Jr., were accorded accord-ed the nominations, J. A- Smith and T. A. Whnlen being created. At this point tho announcement that tho Adamson eisht-hour law had been passed by the Senate was mado and an enthusiastic demonstration followed., D H. Ensign, M. P. Brown and W. H. Taylor were placed in the race for the four-year commisslonership nomination. nom-ination. Brown won on the second ballot, the vote being, Brown 58 5-6, Taylor 32 1-6, Ensign 16. The race for the two-year coramis-sionership coramis-sionership was between D. H. Ensign, J. B. Carver and W. N. Mclntyre and was won by Ensign, the vote being 57, 16. and 25, respectively. There being no aspirants for the position of county clerk, the name of Lawrence Richards was thrown Into the breach and he was nominated by acclamation. A. V. Huish was given the nomination for county treasurer by acclamation. 0. M. Sanderson was named for co-unty assessor In the same manner. Mr. Sanderson declined the namlna-tlon namlna-tlon but the declination was not accepted. ac-cepted. Katherine Higglnbotham won the nomination for county recorder, over D. W. Evans, it being the aim of the delegates to have a woman on the ticket. Charles Farr won tho nomination for county attorney on the first ballot, his opponent being Adam L. Petrson of Huntsvllle. H. C. Peterson was nominated for sheriff by T. Samuel Browning; Joseph Jos-eph Harbertson by J. S. Campbell by J. S. Campbell and Ale Fife by Valentine Valen-tine Gideon. Peterson won on the first ballot and Mr. Fife, after thanking thank-ing his friends for their support, moved to make the vote unanimous. The motion passed. J. W. Lentz was named for county surveyor and Thomas Thom-as E. Cunningham for constable of Ogden City by acclamation. oo |
