Show MINER FALLS TO DEATH IN ZION Salt Lake, Sept. 4. Richard O'Don-nell, O'Don-nell, forty years of age, a miner, died at 12:25 o'clock this morning In the city emergency hospital as the result of injuries received in a fall from a window in the third story of the Angelus hotel, 34 East First South street, at 10 o'clock last night "Young" Peter Jackson, a negro boxer and E. J. Goodman are being held In the city jail pending an investigation in-vestigation into the death of O'Don-nell. O'Don-nell. Both men were with O'Donnell, Is Is said, when he fell from tho window. win-dow. "Whether they are in any way implicate din the death of O'Donnell is a question now under investigation by the police. According to both men, neither had anything to do with the victim's fall, both saying that O'Donnell, who had been drinking beer, had staggered to an open window and before they realized real-ized it had fallen through it to the pavement below. O'Donnell's injuries were found by Dr. W. Scott Keytlng, city physician, In charge of the case, to consist principally prin-cipally of a broken nose, which caused caus-ed a hemorrhage. O'Donnell also suffered suf-fered a badly bruised scalp and possible pos-sible Internal Injuries in his fall. When Jackson was being taken to the station he said the affair was purely accidental. "I'm a clean negro," he added. "I have always fought clean and I have always been clean. I did nothing to Mr. O'Donnell." When told of the death of O'Donnell later, Jackson made no further comment. com-ment. O'Donnell was picked up from the pavement by Patrolmen Harry Moore and Clifford Patten. He was then unconscious. un-conscious. They hurried him to the emergency hospital, where Dr. Key-ting Key-ting administered an anaesthetic to the man, who was slowly regaining consciousness. O'Donnell rested easy until 11 o'clock, when fhe started to talk and in a few moments chanted a Catholic prayer. He then asked for a priest, and the Rev. Father Dunn of All Hallows Hal-lows college was called. At no time did O'Donnell talk about the accident, and evaded all questions asked him ,which pertained to the fall. Little is known of O'Donnell here. ' It is believed that he has no imme- f illate family, although the police are liopeful of finding relatives. Tho body is at the Eber W. Hall mortuary, where it Is likely an autopsy will be performed today. fl |
