Show THREE ESCAPE FROM WEBER COUNTY BJSTILE Althought an interstate search Is being conducted for the three prisoners pris-oners who escaped from .the county jail, late Saturday afternoon, by digging dig-ging form the bathroom into the furnace fur-nace room, and through the outer wall to the rear, no trace of the trio had been reported to the office of T. A. DeVine, Weber county sheriff, today. The sheriff and his deputies are of the opinion that the fugitives will be difficult of capture, owing to the fact that sufficient time has elapsed since the time of their escape to give them a "big lead" on their pursuers. The character of the fugitives, who are described de-scribed as being clever criminals, it was said, argued that they would endeavor en-deavor to avoid the larger cities of the intermountain west, where their capture, by information obtained from the local offices by telephone and telegraph, tele-graph, would be almost certain. Authorities of Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming are co-operating with the local sheriff and deputies in the search. The trio is composed of A. D. Smith, F. R. Fackler and Frank Proctor. Fackler was recently in district court on a burglary charge and was sentenced to six months in the county coun-ty jail. He was a member of three who were caught by the police while robbing a grocery store at 1800 Washington Wash-ington avenue. The two men taken prisoner with Fackler are serving time in the state penitentiary. Because Be-cause of Fackler's youth, a light sentence sen-tence was given him. The young man then showed his appreciation of the court's leniency by becoming a party par-ty to a jailbreak, proving as the police po-lice held that he is an experienced and hardened criminal. Smith entered the home of H. Lu Herrlngton ,for the alleged purpose of committing a 'burglary. He was captured by Everett Noble while inside in-side the Herrlngton home and turned over to the police. On July 29 Detective Detec-tive Captain Robert Burk arrested Proctor on lower Twenty-fifth street after Proctor is alleged to have held up and robbed John Thomas. Both he and Smith were awaiting trial at the September term of court. oo |
