NO COAL FOR THE GERMANS IN EGYPT London, Jan. 21, 6 p. m German's campaign in Egypt is meeting with unexpected obstacles, it is announced here, due to the- lack of coal to operate the railroad which the Germans have constructed southward through Syria to the edge of the desert approaching the Suez canal. The construction of the railroad has been largely facilitated facili-tated by French rails and material for a similar line which was partlv constructed, but the absence of coal prevents the actual opening of the road to transportation.
