Show FREIGHT IS DERAILED AND CARS TIP OVER Salt Lake, March 3. Eighteen freight cars laden with bullion, ore, vegetables, hides and merchandise were derailed and turned over in a bullion extra east bound at Desert, a blind siding just west of Greenriver, on the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, about 11 o'clock yesterday morning. As far as can be ascertained no one was injured other than a severe shaking shak-ing up. The ensine did not leave the track. Tho wreck occurred between switches switch-es a4 Desert and only one car fouled the passing siding The wrecking ou Hit from Helper and the tools cars from Greenriver were hurried to the s-cono of the accident. The passing track was cleared quickly and used to detour around the Areck, thereby avoiding any serious delay to traffic The cause of the -wreck has not been definitely ascertain, but is believed to have been due to a broken journal jour-nal on one of the cars laden with bullion. Before tho wrecked cars that now block tho main track are picked up Ihelr contents will be transferred into in-to other cars. As soon as this has been accomplished the wrecking outfit out-fit will be sent from Salt Lake to clean up the wreckage The train that was wrecked was a bullion special which left here Wednesday Wed-nesday night. It consisted of thirty-two thirty-two cars In all, eighteen of which were derailed and turned over at Desert De-sert Thirteen of the derailed cars contained bullion, two contained ore, one contained vegetables, one hides and one merchandise. Tho extent of the damage to the track, the cars and their lading has not been determined. |
