Show MILITARY LECTURES TO BEGIN II OGDEN I WEDNESDAY : Objects or the "Citizens' Training Camp" at Fort Douglas and the preliminary pre-liminary series of military science lectures to be delivered In Ogden by Captajn Wallace and other United States army officers, were outlined today by members of the Ogden executive ex-ecutive committee as being the same as those for similar camps held in the east last year. They are primarily to properly qualify men 'for national emergencies, to foster a patriotic spirit and spread knowledge of military mili-tary policy and needs, to instill habits hab-its of obedience, discipline, command and self-control. The first of tho military science lectures will be given at the Knights of Pythias hall next Wednesday evening, even-ing, by Captain Wallace, and indications indica-tions are that the large assembly room of. that building will be filled with an audience of Interested men, as the enlistment for the lectures is now ncaring the 200 mark. Captain Wallace will discuss the Santiago military campaign of the Spanish-American war in his first lecture, this address being illustrated with stereopticon Views The objects of the military training camp and lectures was stated In the following extract from an army order of the eastern department in connection connec-tion with the Plattsburg camp, which was not only successful but became world-famous through the fact that Secretary Garrison reprimanded General Gen-eral Leonard Wood for some remarks made in connection with the camp: "To help properly' quhlify men to fill the great deficiency In trained men that would Immediately arise in case of national emergency, by giving them four or five weeks of intensive military instruction in the field under officers, and with troops, of the Regular Regu-lar Army; "To foster a patriotic spirit and spread among the citizens of the country coun-try some knowledge of military history, his-tory, military policy, and joiilltry needs. "To instill in four or five weeks of healthy outdoor life the habits of obedience, discipline, command and self control that are the prerequisites of efficiency In every business or profession, pro-fession, and to send men back ifrom the camps better prepared to take care of themselves and of others." |
