President H J. F. Merrill of the Box Elder Com mercial club has announced that all H stipulation; set forth by the sugar company will be met, and that there H Is no question that the factory' will H be located there. H T. R. Cutler, vice president and gen- eral manager of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company, gave several reasons yester- H day for the selection of Brlgham City as the place to locate the factory, H Prominent among them was the fact H that the city is surrounded or near to H a large beet acreage section of the fu- turc from which the beets can bo hauled by wagons. H Advantages Shown. H The proper drainage, the nearness of the city, where employes could find homes, the guarantee of a suitable wa- ter supply from the Brlgham City H crcok, and a contract from the city au- thorltics that the factory would not H be Included In the corporate limits of H the city, were all points which had been raised and guarantees concern- ing which had been made by the Com- mercial club and the authorities of th? city. In addition, the club had agreed to secure a reduction in the price of the site, which the company felt was H too high. Mr. Cutler said the Dyer Construe- H tion company of Cleveland, Ohio, had jH been -wired to begin shipments imme- diately of the steel and iron, and work H would be rushed, as It must be com- H pleted by September. The plant and H the Incidental operations will call for H an outlay of close to $750,000. H Big Beet Acreage. H The site is on the Oregon Short Line H railroad, about three-fourths of a mile north of the depot at Brlgham City, H and borders the railroad yards, so that only a little track construction will be H necessary. It is close to the main line H running north and southland also tho H Ma ad valley line, running west of H Brlgham City. The tracks of the in- H terurban of the Ogden, Logan & Idaho H are only a few rods east H The fact that Brlgham City has ex- H cellent schools, churches, amusement H halls, libraries, etc., was also a factor H in the company's reaching a decision. H The Brigham City authorities will H extend the electric lines to the fac- H tory and will furnish power and. light H at a low rate. H The sugar company expects to draw jH : heavily for beets from all the districts H east of the Bear river, and when the H land under water is drained, as it yH will be at once, the acreage will seo 'H ' a large increase. In Little Valley (or H Mantua) it is expected that 50p acres H ' of beets will be under cultivation in a H short time. H Two other sites on which the com- H pany had options were at Honeyvllle H and Call's Fort, north of Brlgham H City H |
