Show i SMHffi 10 IEST in Eif orai Salt Lake, March 3. Four evaporation evapora-tion stations for this state, to be used for obtaining data on evaporation of water supplies in reservoirs and expected ex-pected to be of great importance both directly and indirectly to agriculture and agriculturists in this section, have been authorized by the United States weather bureau, according to A H Thiesson, director of the local station Locations for the stations have not yet been selected, but will be in a few days, and building operations will then commence at once, Mr. Thiessen says, E. C. La Rue, hydraulic engineer oi the United Slates geological survey, who returned yesterday from Denver, where he Inspected newly installed stations, has made recommendations to Mr. Thiessen regarding both the nature of the stations and the plyes of installment. He considers the work of the evaporation station aud the data to be assempled through it among the most useful and at present the most needed lino -of information to both agriculturists and engineers. It is chiefly intended for the determination determina-tion of evaporation on reservoirs and lakes from which water for irrigation and other purposes is taken. It has been suggested by Mr. La Rue that one station be placed In the Escalanto valley, one in the Uinta valley, val-ley, one in the valley of the upjer Sevier river, and the fourth In this city. The locations will ne determined by the facility of obtaining daily readings read-ings by engineers. The stations will also be equipped with instruments for the measurement of temperature rainfall and wind velocity, and the data obtained will be segregated under different conditions and times In such a way that evaporation under most any kind of weather can be easily determined. de-termined. The cost of installation is only about $100 a station |
