Irish members of the house of commons made an appeal today for the inclusion inclu-sion of Ireland in the provisions of the bill for compulsory military service. serv-ice. A motion to this effect was made by James Chambers of the southern division of Belfast, supported by James Craig of the eastern division of Down. Both urged that the stigma placed on their countrymen by tho terms of the bill be removed. They appealed to John Redmond, leader of the Irish Nationalists, to attempt to induce his followers to support a bill covering Ireland. A. Bonar Law, secretary for the colonies, col-onies, who is in charge of tho bill, expressed the belief that any attempt at forco would result in losing more than was gained. Sir Edward Carson advised Mr. Chambers, in view of Mr. Law's speech, not to press his amendment, which, he said, would merely delay the bill. .wr. Keamond said the simple fact was that conscription in Ireland would be unworkable and impossible. Mr. Reamond said recruiting In Ireland had been most satisfactory, and In tho towns even amazing. There were three days of debate on the compulsion bill in prospect when the measure, which has entered upon the committee stage, was taken up today, and there were signs of a temporary slackening in interest in it. Many amendments, mostly of a hostile hos-tile character, emanating from tho faction led by Sir John Simon, the former home secretary, none except those proposed by the government in fulfillment of Premier Asquith's pledges to the trades unionists has any prospect of being Incorporated in the bill.
