Show BLIZZARD IS ONE OF TIE WORST IN MANY YEARS The blizzard of yesterday afternoon and last night, is said by old residents resi-dents of Ogden to have been the severest se-verest In many years. The strong wind was accompanied by heavy sleet and snow and the temperature was uncomfortably low, not reaching a point,' however, lower than 12 degrees above zero. Some of the bench street cars had to be abandoned last evening and the people experienced considerable hardship hard-ship In getting to their homes. Great drifts of snow wore encountered on the sidewalks. The storm has continued most of today. The forecast indicates more snow. It was with difficulty this morning that cars for the east terminals in the city were operated, owing to the wind and the constantly drifting snow. The first car over Twenty-first street made headway only to Adams avenue and a crew of men has been kept busy most of the day clearing the track of snow drifts. There also has been troublo in keeping schedule time on Twenty-third Twenty-third street, but Twenty-fifth and Twenty-seventh street lines have done remarkably well. The North Ogden car was run quite successfully until about 11 o'clock last night when it was completely stalled in the cut immediately north of North Ogden. The crew worked to extricate the car from the bank of snow until about 5 o'clock this morning, morn-ing, when the effort was abandoned. Considerable snow had to be removed by shovelers today before the service serv-ice over that line could be resumed. Word from the seat of trouble on the Ogden-Preston line was received at about noon today to the effect that the track was about cleared of snow and that through service would be given this afternoon, but later more trouble was encountered and the track could not be opened. |
