Show KERN IS k CANDIDATE Bryan Nominates Him for the Temporary Chairman. Baltimore, June 25. Senator John W. Koru, of Indiana, practically has been agreed upon as tho candidate of the progressives for temporary chairman of tho national Democratic convention. He will be placed in nomination by William Jennings Bryan. A conference was held this morning in which Senator Luke Lea, of Tonncsseo, Senator Kern, Senator Gore, of Oklahoma, Senator New-lands, New-lands, of Nevada, National Committeeman Commit-teeman Garber, of Ohio, and Charles W. Bryan participated. At the conclusion con-clusion the conferees told Mr. Bryan that they thought Senator Kern should bo named and that they thought he should be placed In nomination nomi-nation by Mr Bryan. Shortly after leaving Mr. Bryan's room, Mr. Garber gave out the information infor-mation that Senator Kern would likely be the man named. Mr. Bryan said today that he felt very keenly about tho situation and was prepared to mako the speech of his life in defense of his attitudo and against the "Big Interests," he declared declar-ed were opposing him. . Some of Mr. Bryan's callers declared declar-ed that tears came to the Nebraskan's eyes as ho dlscussod the situation. That he was in deadly earnest was most apparent Judge Parker said today that he had no idea who would load tho fight for him. He said it was entirely a matter mat-ter to bo handled by the national committee. an |
