Show 00 PROCEEDINGS OF THE CITY BOARD The plumbers of the city were turnod down last night by the city board in their petition for the elimination elimina-tion of a certain excavation tax of $1 which they are compelled to pay in the prosecution of their business. The plumbers contend that Inasmuch as they are furnish a bond of $2,000 for the safe keening and care of the streets where they may have to excavate exca-vate to reach underground pipes, and as they make all repairs needed aftor their work is done, paying a license to tap city water mains and other pipes, they should not bo compelled to pay $1 excavation tax. The petition peti-tion was denied by a unanimous vote of the commissioners. The petition for the Installation of an electric street light on Jefferson avenue and Thirty-second street was denied, but the commissioners granted grant-ed the petition asking for the change of position of the arc light on Jefferson Jeffer-son avenue and Thirty-first street On the recommendation of Commissioner Commis-sioner Fell, the petition for tho extension ex-tension of water mains in the vicinity of Taylor, Polk and Fillmore avenue was denied, but property owners wore advised that they could have an ex tension 01 me mains on iwcnty-nintn street, between Madison and Monroe. It was also ruled by tho board of commlssloneis that there shall be water main extensions on Adams avenue, ave-nue, between Thirty-first and Thirty-second Thirty-second streets, and that a fire hydrant shall be placed in the vicinity of Porter Por-ter avenue. The potltlon of Alex Taylor for the Transfer of the retail liquor license of Taylor & Taylor to Taylor & Stoker waB granted and the matter will be certified to the district court for approval. ap-proval. The city auditor was authorized to draw a warrant for $1,325 for the redemption re-demption of certain Bewer district bonds and also for the payment of Interest Tho auditor reported that there are sufficient funds on hand to redeem tho bonds. On the recommendation of Commissioner Com-missioner Browning, an ordinance amending the liquor ordinances of last year was passed, the change being be-ing made In the old ordinance requiring requir-ing that the combination license for wholesale and retail liquor dealers 39BBBnMmaiBaiMBKBHaK be abolished and the parties be required re-quired to take out separate licenses for the two lines of business. Under the old law a wholesale and retail license li-cense was issued at a cost of $1,600, but under tho amended ordinance the cost will be $2,000 and the parties will be compelled to operate under two soparato 'licenses. The wholesale license will cost $1,200 and the ro-tall ro-tall $800. Claims Allowed.
