Representative Repre-sentative Murdcck, tho mlllLont Kansas Kan-sas insurgent, today aimed a deadly blow at tho time honored custom which permits a momber of congress to print "speeches" in the Congressional Congres-sional Record that never wore delivered deliver-ed In the house Mr. Murdock proposes pro-poses that hereafter the record shall show In plain, black-faced type, that such speeches wero not actually spoken spok-en but appear under a "leave to" print " Ho believes a resolution introduced (today to that effect will pass the house, despite the fact that It would destroy one of the greatest assets of the obscure congressman who prints speeches for home consumption and campaign purposes. Ho asserts that many of the printed speeches have been filed with paranthetlcal remarks of "loud and prolonged applause," "laughter," etc Tho now rule would expose this vainglorious custom, Mr. Murdock declares. |
